Engadget.com and creative solar energy

I just came across this website Engadget, which has fun little blogs about new design and innovations in particular in consumer electronics. There’s a lot of interesting blogs, from flying taxis to new cell phone design and the world’s smallest projector. Just sort of interesting to look around every once in a while.

One of the blogs that caught my eye was about the creative use of solar panels. In Australia they thought of solar panels that provide energy and shade at the same time in schoolyards. The panels can rotate to get the most efficient use of the sun, as well as protect the kids from the heat. I think this is a great combination of form and function, but at the same time wonder whether the panels would ever get in the way or not. It doesn’t seem like the panels are adjustable or movable, which might not be optimal in a schoolyard. Either way, it’s definitely more innnovative than the solar panels on top of the roof, and maybe something to be able to work with and improve.

Engadget is one of the most popular blog sites. There was a leather jacket and backpack with solar panel as well.
