The values of the workshop

-      Diverse communication and approaches on interdisciplinary fields

-      Sharing experiences and knowledge

-      Co-creation with design thinking

Our workshop on Nov 1-3, 2007 will be the first in a series of activities that will bring together leading academics and practitioners from various disciplines to identify, analyze, design and describe ways in which we can transform urban communities. Designers, architects, technologists, artists, policymakers, engineers and entrepreneurs will be joined by academics in the fields of management, economics, architecture, design, communication, history and sociology. We will develop better theories of design, innovation, technology, entrepreneurship, and change for complex socio-technical systems in order to bring multiple, diverse actors together to transform the life experiences of the city. We will also share inspiring examples of urban transformation through the use of various emerging digital technologies. The findings of the workshop are expected to form an important springboard in our understanding of the possibilities for a digital transformation of urban communities through the wide deployment of ubiquitous information environments. The workshop will focus on identifying visionary design scenarios and narratives of future digital urban communities along with entrepreneurial opportunities to carry out such visions. The participants will look for design theories, images, stories and vocabularies that can inspire both research and practice going forward.
